Privacy Policy

Rekonify ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the Rekonify macOS application ("the App") and website (rekonify.org).

1. Information We Collect

Sign in with Apple. When you create an account, Apple provides us with:

  • A unique, anonymous user identifier (not your Apple ID)
  • Your name (if you choose to share it)
  • Your email address or an Apple-generated relay email (if you choose to share it)

We do not receive or store your Apple ID password. Authentication is handled entirely by Apple.

Subscription data. Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.). We only receive transaction confirmations from Apple's StoreKit framework to verify your subscription status.

Device and usage data. The App does not collect analytics, usage telemetry, crash reports, or device identifiers. We do not track how you use the App.

File data. The App accesses files on external storage devices (SD cards, USB drives) that you explicitly connect to your Mac. File operations are performed entirely on your local machine through a sandboxed virtual machine. We never transmit, upload, or access your file contents remotely.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used solely to:

  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • Verify your subscription status to provide access to the App
  • Respond to support inquiries you send us

3. Data Storage

Your account credentials (user identifier, name, email) are stored locally on your device in the macOS Keychain, which is encrypted and protected by your Mac's security. We do not maintain a server-side database of user accounts.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The only third party involved in data processing is Apple, through Sign in with Apple and App Store subscription management.

5. Data Retention

Your account data is stored on your device until you sign out or delete the App. When you sign out, your profile is removed from the local Keychain. We do not retain your data on any external servers.

6. Children's Privacy

Rekonify is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

7. Security

We take appropriate measures to protect your information:

  • Credentials are stored in the macOS Keychain with hardware-backed encryption
  • The privileged helper daemon only accesses removable storage devices you explicitly select
  • The virtual machine is sandboxed and cannot access your Mac's filesystem
  • All file operations are logged locally for your audit trail

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information stored on your device (visible in the App's Billing settings)
  • Delete your account by signing out (this removes all stored credentials)
  • Manage or cancel your subscription through Apple's subscription management

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
